More Social Media

Well, last night I got a little bored and set up a couple more accounts. First thing was a LinkedIn, which you can find my profile here.  That is of course supposed to be a slightly more professional deal, but we’ll just see how that goes.

Next I finally got a working invitation for Google+. Long story there, but you can find me here. I’m also trying to get the Google +1 button to work here on my site. Not sure how easy that will be, but let’s cross our fingers.

Oops!

So it’s been over a month since my last update. My bad. Nothing terribly exciting has happened really. I went to New York City and got to see a taping of the Jimmy Fallon show which was pretty cool. On the same trip we stopped in New Jersey and had some fun there also. I had the opportunity to photograph/film a wedding anniversary and that was pretty fun. I was also put on orders for doing funerals with the Guard. That’s nice because it pays a little better than just getting paid per day, but it’s no career.

I spent a week in Smyrna for my Annual Training with the 129th Army Band. That was an adventure, I don’t feel like we really accomplished much but those of us staying in the barracks made the most of it. We played a lot of ultimate frisbee and consumed numerous adult beverages, so no complaints there.

I’m still looking for real job and have thrown my resume to a few places. Feel free to cross your fingers, pray, do a dance, whatever you want to help me out. Really, I’d like to move to a new town with a new job, but we’ll just see.

And finally, yesterday I celebrated a birthday. I’m not going to say which one but I promise I’m older then you think.

Doing what I can

So since graduation I’ve been working funerals with the Guard. It keeps me busy, though isn’t exactly the best paying job. On the plus side I have a job interview tomorrow. I don’t want to jinx it by saying too much, and to be honest I don’t know what to expect, but I feel like it’s at least a step in the right direction.

I recently purchased a new camera which I’m excited about. I got the Canon Rebel T2i which in addition to being an awesome DSLR also shoots HD video. I don’t have anything that I’ve filmed yet, but don’t worry there will be something.

Graduation

So I compiled some photos from my graduation into a slideshow. It isn’t anything fancy, I was really just messing around with Picasa. It has some unique options for creating slideshows, this one has to do with using faces. I thought it turned out cool.

Done!

So this past Friday I graduated from college. It was a fun experience but I’m glad to be done. Of course now I really have to find a job. I’ve been considering doing some wedding photography because for the most part I have all the equipment I need to get started. Not to mention it can pay decently as long as I don’t suck. Beyond that, I just want to do something I enjoy.  I had some business cards made up so I can spread my name and contact info quickly and easily when I meet new people. But for now, I’m going to leave you with a picture from graduation.

Yup, I’m a dork.

Graduation

Well, I have officially been cleared for graduation. In less than a month I will be receiving a Bachelors of Science in Communication Arts concentrating in Mass Communications specializing in Media Technologies. Because I’m in the final stretch towards graduation I’ve been very busy with school. This has severely limited my posting here on the site, but that happens. I’m slowly starting to look for a job for after graduation. I’ve posted my resume online to Posted in Update | 1 Comment

Really?

I’ve mentioned before about getting various spam comments here on my website. Yesterday for some odd reason there was an odd explosion of numerous comments. I thought I would share some of them, which of course I’m not going to approve.

I’m curious to find out what blog platform you have been utilizing? I’m experiencing some small security issues with my latest blog and I would like to find something more risk-free. Do you have any suggestions?

Really? Doesn’t it say WordPress at the bottom?

Does your site have a contact page? I’m having problems locating it but, I’d like to shoot you an email. I’ve got some creative ideas for your blog you might be interested in hearing. Either way, great site and I look forward to seeing it expand over time.

I’m pretty sure it’s easy to find right up there in the navigation bar.

Do you have a spam issue on this site; I also am a blogger, and I was wondering your situation; many of us have developed some nice methods and we are looking to swap strategies with other folks, why not shoot me an email if interested.

Yeah, you’re the problem.

That is just a small selection of the comments but the funniest part is their names.

Notice a trend there? Must be family.

Back when it snowed…

A little while back I put together a time lapse video using my Canon Rebel XSi. The snow was falling and I thought it’d be cool to watch it accumulate.  It isn’t the best time lapse (my cats make a few guest appearances) but stuff like this I always enjoy. I figure the next time I make one it will be better, so it’s worth it to have a not so good one.

Spring? Break? Huh?

Well, tomorrow I go back to college after my final spring break. It’s the figurative home stretch the way I see it. There are still a couple of things to take care to finalize my graduation but it is going to happen so I’m not worried. What I’m going to do after graduation is a whole different story.

I’m of course going to look for a job, but even that is tricky. I’d love to get a job actually using my degree, such as working at a tv station or something. The truth is that I’ll have to take whatever I can find. I’m also hoping to be able to buy some equipment so I can actually be hired as a film company, create music videos, wedding videos, etc for local people. Down side is that will require atleast $1000 to obtain even some basic equipment. I’d like to get a Canon T2i or T3i to film with because I personally believe that DSLR video is the way to go. I have found a cool kinda cheap kit on ebay for a USB microphone with stand, shock mount, etc that I’d love to have for doing any voice work.

Last but not least, I’m hoping to get a couple of fun trips in this summer after graduation. First off I’m planning on going to New York with my good friend CJ. We plan on seeing the Jimmy Fallon show and Times Square, beyond that we don’t know. I also have this urge to try to hike a small portion of the Appalachian trail at some point during the summer. I figure I’ll try to do a week, 4-6 days.  Anybody interested in joining?

This growing up thing was a bad idea.

Musings, spam, and more

So I’ve been getting at least one spam comment a day here on my blog/website. The way I look at it, it’s a good thing and a bad thing. How is spam good? It means that people I don’t know are finding my website and bothering to waste more then half a second looking at it, or bots. Of course it’s bad because I have to come in and delete the comments, but I can tolerate that for now.

Right now I’m sitting in the editing lab here at my school working on a short corporate video. It won’t be my best work but sometimes you have to do what you have to do. Of course part of the reason it’s sucking is because the non-profit we’re working with has dropped the ball a few times in returning phone calls and such.

I went to this Grad Finale thing today for my university and found out they think I’m missing one class. The good news is that I’m pretty sure I can substitute another class for it without any problems. That being said, once I graduate that means it’s time to move on. The question is where? I really just want to find a job somewhere, doesn’t really matter where, but hopefully it’s close by and pays well. Though I will say that I’m easily enticed by money, so I think that will be the deciding factor.
